ASA Architecture Ltd have recently succeeded in gaining planning permission for a new stately home within the English Heritage site of Spye Park near Lacock in Wiltshire.
The consent is one of a very limited number permissions granted since 1997 under the government’s PPG7 guidelines for new large country houses in open land.
Anthony Shores, architect for the new property, has spent the past year working alongside the owners, expert consultants and the planning authorities on the project.
The two principle aims were to provide a design of significant architectural
merit and to reflect the historic character of the site, integrating the existing
architectural features and preserving and enhancing the character of the landscape.
ASA Architecture Ltd have recently succeeded in securing a second Planning and Listed Building consent for a modern garden studio in fashionable Notting Hill, London W11.
The original concept originated from the client’s need to create a work from home space by supplementing the accommodation to the main dwelling, which typical of urban areas is compact and has very limited scope for expansion. Hence a new building was required; it is designed to be discreet and provide flexible, self-contained accommodation ancillary to the main dwelling.
The original garden studio consent is set in mature gardens behind the Grade II* Listed stucco houses in Royal Crescent within the Norland Conservation Area of Notting Hill. The design uses glass, steel and timber in a simple square form with a vaulted roof.
The studio is essentially designed as a small office, but can be used for
alternative of uses; ie, guest room, or simply as a garden pavilion for entertaining.
Following the success of the first scheme, the practice was commissioned to
produce more of the same contemporary design for a new client.
